My Take

For me, Monique Coleman will always be Taylor McKessie, the brainy, no-nonsense friend in High School Musical who never quite got the spotlight she deserved. What strikes me is that she came out of DePaul University and brought a real grounded quality to a franchise that easily could have felt weightless. I find it telling that she's been so open about her life beyond that role rather than coasting on the nostalgia. Born in Orangeburg, South Carolina in 1980, she's one of those actors I respect more for what she's built quietly than for the blockbuster line on her resume.
