My Take

Nick Van Exel was one of those point guards who played with an edge I always enjoyed watching. Out of Cincinnati and into the NBA in 1993, he made his name with the Lakers and earned an All-Star nod in 1998 before suiting up for six teams over a thirteen-year career. What I like is that he didn't fade after playing; he moved into coaching, including an assistant role with the Atlanta Hawks. To me that's the sign of a true student of the game. Fearless from deep, never short on confidence, Van Exel felt like a guard who genuinely believed the next shot was going in.
