My Take
Orzubek Nazarov is a name most Japanese fans won't know, and that's exactly why he gets to me. A former WBA lightweight champion out of Kant in Kyrgyzstan, he came up through the old Soviet amateur system, won bronze at the 1986 world championships, then conquered the pros. I don't pretend to have studied every one of his fights, but I have a real soft spot for these hard-nosed boxers emerging from the ex-Soviet world. No theatrics, just quietly hunting his opponents down. The fighters who get strong far from the spotlight are always the scariest ones.
