My Take
Paul Giamatti is, to me, proof that Hollywood still rewards craft over cheekbones. He trained at Yale, spent decades stealing scenes as schlubs, cranks, and brilliant misfits, and then the industry finally caught up with him through an Emmy, Golden Globes, and Oscar nominations. What I admire most is his refusal to flatten a character into likability; his men are prickly, wounded, and fully human. The 2023 Golden Globe felt less like a breakthrough than a long-overdue acknowledgment of a working actor who never coasted. In an era of franchise faces, Giamatti reminds me that presence is built, not born.
