Perfume Genius

Perfume Genius, born Mike Hadreas, is one of those rare artists who turns private pain into something luminous. What strikes me is how he writes about Crohn's disease, queer vulnerability, and abuse without ever slipping into self-pity—instead he wraps it all in aching, gorgeous pop. That honesty is the whole point for me; he proves that exposing your wounds can be the most powerful artistic move there is. His Seattle roots and indie sensibility give the work an intimacy that bigger productions rarely capture. I keep returning to his music because it makes fragility feel like a kind of courage worth holding onto.
