My Take

Peter H. Gilmore fascinates me less for the shock value of his title and more for the conviction it demands. Stepping in as High Priest of the Church of Satan after Anton LaVey is to accept a lifetime of being misunderstood and attacked, since their philosophy is really about individualism and self-responsibility rather than literal devil worship. Whatever one makes of the ideas, I respect the spine it takes to publicly defend a worldview most people instinctively recoil from. That he is also a composer adds an artistic texture I did not expect. I value the consistency of his thinking, even where I would argue with it.
