My Take
I have such a soft spot for Kazuhiro Fujita, because his pages just run hot. The guy draws like he's sweating onto the paper, all thick frantic lines and emotion cranked to eleven, and somehow he's been doing it since the late '80s without cooling off. What gets me is the discipline under all that heat. Ushio and Tora, Karakuri Circus, Moonlight Act, these are sprawling, years-long epics with a hundred dangling threads, and he actually pays them all back, no loose ends left flapping. He takes goofy pulp stuff, yokai and creepy puppets, and digs until he hits real human grief and loyalty, so the endings land like a punch to the chest. A Hokkaido kid from Asahikawa who never lost the fire, basically the hot-blooded uncle of manga, and I'm completely here for it.
