My Take

Peter Krause is, to me, the rare actor who makes reliability thrilling. From the rapid-fire banter of Sports Night to the haunted Nate Fisher in Six Feet Under and the steady captain of 9-1-1, he keeps anchoring great ensembles without ever grabbing for the spotlight. Two consecutive SAG ensemble awards tell the real story: he elevates everyone around him. There is a Midwestern plainness to his work, no vanity and no tricks, just precise emotional carpentry. I think television's golden age owes him more credit than he usually gets, and I will happily watch anything a good showrunner builds around him.
