My Take
Phoebe Bridgers writes the kind of songs that feel like reading someone's diary with their permission. What I admire most is the control: her voice rarely rises above a murmur, yet Punisher builds to one of the most cathartic endings in modern indie music. The Grammy wins with boygenius confirmed what fans of Stranger in the Alps already knew, that she is a generational lyricist who makes sadness companionable rather than crushing. I also love the wit, the skeleton suit, the refusal to perform misery solemnly. Pasadena-raised and arts-school-trained, she pairs craft with honesty in a way few songwriters of her era manage.
