My Take

Pink has always struck me as the athlete of pop music. Anyone who can hold pitch while spinning high above an arena on a strip of silk has earned my permanent respect. But what I admire most is her longevity strategy: she never chased trends, she just kept being defiantly, raspily herself, from the LaFace girl-group days at fifteen to multiple Grammy wins. There is a working-class Pennsylvania grit in everything she does, including the activism and the refusal to be polished into someone else's idea of a diva. To me she proves that authenticity, maintained for decades, beats reinvention every time.

Alecia Beth Moore-Hart (born September 8, 1979), known professionally as Pink (stylized as P!NK), is an American singer and songwriter. She is known for her acrobatic stage presence and activism. Aged 15, Pink formed the short-lived girl group Choice, who signed with LaFace Records in 1995, although they disbanded without major releases.
