Radhika Apte

Radhika Apte interests me because she works inside mainstream Hindi cinema while clearly refusing to be domesticated by it. Trained in theatre and educated at Pune University, she debuted modestly in 2005 and took her first lead in a 2009 Bengali drama, then carved out a reputation for choosing edgier, riskier roles and embracing streaming long before it was safe. She has since stepped behind the camera as a director too. I am always rooting for performers who interrogate the templates handed to them rather than coasting on stardom, and her restless, curious instinct makes her one to keep watching.
