What fascinates me about Linklater is his patience. Shooting Boyhood over twelve years, or returning to the Before trilogy every nine, is not a gimmick — it is a philosophy that cinema can hold real, lived time in a way no other art form can. He came out of Texas with no industry pedigree, built his own scene, and never traded curiosity for prestige. That he can also deliver a crowd-pleaser like School of Rock proves the range.
