My Take
To me, Richie Sambora is half the sound of Bon Jovi, and people forget that too easily. From 1983 to 2013 his talk-box guitar, harmonies, and songwriting were the band's structural spine, not just decoration. Born in working-class Perth Amboy, New Jersey, he carried that blue-collar grit straight into the riffs. I can still hum the intro to Livin' on a Prayer note for note. His 2018 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was overdue recognition. He often stood in Jon's shadow, but I would argue loudly that the band's signature was at least as much his.
