My Take
Rider Strong belongs to a small club: child stars who matured into thoughtful craftspeople instead of cautionary tales. To my generation he is forever Shawn Hunter, the charming, slightly wounded best friend, but what impresses me is what came after. He went to Columbia, learned to write and direct, and made independent films alongside his brother rather than chasing the spotlight. That quiet pivot from being looked at to doing the looking is harder than it seems, and most never manage it. I find myself rooting for performers like him, the ones who keep going on sincerity rather than fame.
