Rosamund Kwan

Rosamund Kwan embodies the golden age of Hong Kong cinema for me. Her Thirteenth Aunt opposite Jet Li in the Once Upon a Time in China films carries a poise that simply hasn't aged, and her pairings with Andy Lau anchored a whole era of dramatic filmmaking. Few people deserve the phrase classical beauty as fully as she does. She has retired, but the warmth captured on those reels is permanent. When I think of how vibrant that period of Hong Kong film was, she sits right at its center, and I hold deep respect for what she gave to the screen.
