My Take
Kihlstedt is one of those reliably watchable character actors whose face you recognize long before you can place the name. I first clocked her as the cool, calculating villain in Home Alone 3, but her later television work is where she really shows range, slipping into tense, grounded roles without ever overplaying them. She brings a quiet intelligence to supporting parts that lesser actors would coast through. I appreciate that she has stayed working steadily for decades rather than chasing fame, and that she has moved toward directing. She is exactly the kind of dependable talent that holds a production together.
