My Take

Ryan Peake is the quiet architect behind Nickelback's wall of sound, and I find that role genuinely underrated. Everyone fixates on the frontman, but it's Peake's rhythm guitar, keyboards, and those backing vocals on tracks like Savin' Me and Gotta Be Somebody that give the band its density. Coming out of small-town Brooks, Alberta and sticking with the group from its very inception speaks to a kind of loyalty and craftsmanship that flashier players rarely show. I have a soft spot for musicians who choose to anchor rather than dominate, and Peake strikes me as exactly that sort of dependable backbone.
