Ryuko Hira

Ryuko Hira — honestly, the name alone does something to me. "Ryuko" means dragon and tiger, which is basically the universe saying "this person is not to be trifled with." Born in Jaipur, India, in 1948, he made Japan his home and built a life in business — not on stage, not in politics, but in the quieter, grittier world of commerce where results do the talking. He now runs the HMI Hotel Group and received India's Padma Shri in 2022 for his work in trade and industry. There's a whole generation of builders who kept their heads down and never once felt the need to be famous about it. Hira feels like one of them — someone whose résumé lives in handshakes and balance sheets rather than headlines. His quiet bridge-building between India and Japan honestly makes him more interesting, not less.
