Sadiq Khan

Sadiq Khan is one of those figures whose story genuinely stops you in your tracks — the son of a Pakistani bus driver who grew up in a South London council flat, went on to become a solicitor, then an MP, and in 2016 was elected Mayor of London, one of the most complex and scrutinized cities on the planet. He's held that office through Brexit chaos, a pandemic, and relentless political headwinds, and he keeps getting re-elected, which tells you something. Time named him to their 100 most influential people list in 2018, and honestly that felt right — whether you agree with his politics or not, the sheer arc of his life, from Tooting to City Hall, is hard to argue with.
