My Take

Sam Cassell is one of my favorite kinds of NBA story: the guy who lasted fifteen years across eight teams purely on guile. Drafted 24th out of Florida State in 1993, he was never the biggest or flashiest point guard, but he had that clutch shot-maker's nerve and a competitor's swagger I always loved watching. It says a lot that he transitioned so naturally into coaching, eventually landing on the Boston Celtics bench. Players with his basketball IQ tend to make excellent teachers. To me he embodies longevity earned through craft rather than athleticism, which is exactly the kind of career that ages well in retrospect.
