My Take
Scott Weiland had one of the most distinctive voices in 1990s rock, and to me he embodied both the brilliance and the fragility that often travel together in great frontmen. As the lead vocalist of Stone Temple Pilots and later Velvet Revolver, he delivered a smoky, theatrical presence that nobody else could quite replicate. His long struggle with addiction, which ended his life far too early in 2015, makes his catalog feel even more precious. I keep coming back to those records with gratitude. He gave rock a voice that still aches with feeling, and that legacy outlasts the turmoil.
