My Take
Shawn Ryan is the kind of showrunner I instinctively respect, because he changed what television could be. The Shield was a moral grey zone executed with astonishing nerve, and he kept that ambition alive through The Unit, Lie to Me, S.W.A.T. and The Night Agent. What impresses me is that his range of genres never dilutes his grip on human flaw and consequence. As a writer rather than a face on screen, he proves that the real architecture of a series lives in its blueprint. I will always make time for a Shawn Ryan show, because the unseen craftsmen are often the true authors of an era.
