My Take
Sheena Easton is, to me, one of the most underrated vocal talents of the eighties. From the Scottish town of Bellshill to a global career launched on a talent show, she had a voice that could carry both the breezy ache of Morning Train and the cinematic drama of a James Bond theme. Becoming the first artist to score top-five hits across all of Billboard's primary singles charts is no fluke; that is sustained, versatile artistry. Her later, sultrier collaborations with Prince showed she was never content to stay in one lane. I think her catalog deserves a serious reappraisal.
Overview
Sheena Shirley Easton (née Orr; born 27 April 1959) is a Scottish singer, songwriter and actress who rose to prominence in the reality television series The Big Time: Pop Singer (1980). Her record sales worldwide are estimated at 20 million copies, and she became the first artist in Billboard history to have a top-five hit on each of the Billboard primary singles charts.
