Shimba Tsuchiya

Shimba Tsuchiya is usually introduced as the younger brother of the actress Tao Tsuchiya, which is an unfair place to begin. As a child actor he played Toshio Saeki in The Grudge 3, a role that unsettles you the instant it appears on screen. He later moved his center of gravity to voice work: Tatara Fujita in Welcome to the Ballroom, Tsutomu Goshiki in Haikyu!!, and in 2021 the Seiyu Award for Best Rookie Actor. Growing up among performers means every success gets attributed to bloodline. Earning a prize through a different door than your famous sibling takes real stubbornness. I hope he gets called by his own name more often.
