Shinnosuke Abe

185 cm, born in Osaka in 1982. For a Japanese actor that height is genuinely tall, and I have always thought tall actors get a strange deal. You are visible the moment you enter frame, which sounds like an advantage until you realize it narrows what you can be cast as. Blocking a scene around someone who towers over the rest of the cast takes work, and directors who do not want that work simply cast someone else. So when I see a performer who is still working into his forties with that build, I read it as evidence of range rather than presence. Presence gets you the first job; something else gets you the twentieth. His credits include the film Day and Night and the tokusatsu series Chouseishin Gransazer: an Osaka native who went into acting and stayed in it. That is a harder sentence to earn than it looks.
