My Take
Growing up in Nago, Okinawa — one of the most sun-drenched, laid-back corners of Japan — and then choosing professional golf as your arena is a combination that I find genuinely fascinating. Golf is all about stillness under pressure, and I get the sense that someone raised beside that deep-blue Pacific knows something about patience that you can't learn from a practice range alone. Shinobu Moromizato turned pro out of that background, and whether she was grinding through qualifying stages or competing on tour, there's a quiet toughness to the whole story that I respect. She won the Japan Women's Open in 2007 and took her game to the LPGA Tour, and anyone who commits that long to a sport this mentally demanding earns my genuine admiration.
