My Take

Solar, born Kim Yong-sun, is the leader and main vocalist of Mamamoo, and to me she is one of the most genuinely gifted singers in K-pop rather than just a polished idol. Mamamoo built their reputation on actual vocal power and a refusal to play the cute card, and Solar is central to that identity. Her 2020 solo debut 'Spit It Out' and the 2022 EP Face showed an artist comfortable being bold and a little strange. The data lists her as American, but she is from Seoul. I respect that she leads a group whose whole brand is talent over manufactured image.
