My Take
Stan Ridgway is exactly my kind of artist. As the original voice of Wall of Voodoo, he turned songs into dusty little film noirs, half-spoken narratives carried by that unmistakable voice. He plays banjo and guitar and scores film and television too, the mark of a true working craftsman rather than a chart-chaser. What I admire most is his refusal to chase trends; he keeps tending his own arid, cinematic world instead. I will always take a stubborn, singular eccentric over a polished hitmaker, and Ridgway is one of the genuine articles.
