My Take
Stephen Fung intrigues me as a true multi-hyphenate of Hong Kong cinema. Born in 1974 and educated at the University of Michigan, he brings an international sensibility to a film culture I love. Starting as an actor before moving into screenwriting, directing, and producing, he's one of those rare talents comfortable on both sides of the camera, and he sang too. I find people with that many creative outlets endlessly watchable. As Hong Kong cinema searches for its next generation of storytellers, versatile figures like Fung strike me as quietly essential to keeping that tradition alive and evolving.
