Steve Evets

Steve Evets fascinates me precisely because his path was not tidy. Born Steven Murphy in Salford and a former merchant seaman, an actor and a musician both, he spent years grinding before the 2009 film Looking for Eric finally put him front and centre. I love stories like that, where recognition arrives late and feels earned rather than handed over. There is usually a lived-in texture to performers who came up the hard way, and I suspect Evets carries that grit into his roles. He represents, to me, the unglamorous persistence that the acting world too often overlooks.
