Steven Mead

Steven Mead is the kind of artist who quietly elevates an entire instrument. As an English euphonium virtuoso, he's championed an instrument most people couldn't name, let alone appreciate, and that devotion is exactly what I respect. Born in Bournemouth in 1962, he's spent his life not just performing but teaching, which tells me he cares about the euphonium's future as much as his own spotlight. There's something deeply unglamorous yet noble about mastering an instrument outside the classical mainstream. His website domain says it all. This is a man who has, in effect, made the euphonium his entire identity.
