My Take

Tony Randall is one of those performers I admire precisely because he made fussiness lovable. His Felix Unger in The Odd Couple could have been insufferable, yet he turned neurotic precision into warmth and comic music. What moves me most is the arc: a Columbia-educated kid from Tulsa who chased Broadway, won an Emmy in 1975, and late in life founded his own theater company because he loved the stage that much. Picking up an award in 2004, the very year he died at 84, tells you everything about his devotion. I respect a craftsman who never stopped showing up.
