Sumire Matsubara

Sumire Matsubara has always struck me as someone who refuses to be defined by a single lane. Born in Tokyo to a famous acting family, she could have coasted on name recognition, yet she studied theater at Carnegie Mellon and built a career spanning modeling, music, and acting on her own terms. At 175 cm she has the presence of a model, but it's the intellectual curiosity behind it that I find most appealing. Multi-hyphenate talents sometimes spread themselves thin, but Sumire seems to fold everything she does into one coherent, self-possessed identity, and I'm rooting for her.
