Susan Dey

Dey accomplished the single hardest thing a teen idol can attempt: a convincing second act. Beloved as Laurie on The Partridge Family, she could have faded gracefully, but instead she reinvented herself as Grace Van Owen on L.A. Law, winning a Golden Globe and earning three Emmy nods along the way. I admire the discipline behind that pivot, and equally the wisdom of her quiet retirement. Too many performers cling on; Dey read the room and walked away on her own terms. From Pekin, Illinois to genuine dramatic credibility is a path worth honoring.
