My Take

I find McDonell more interesting than his The 100 fame suggests. A Manhattan kid and NYU grad, he could have settled into a tidy actor's career, but he splits his energy between acting, photography, and music. That restlessness reads to me less like a lack of focus and more like genuine curiosity about how images and sounds get made. Plenty of performers crave the camera; far fewer want to stand behind it too. Born in 1986, he still has plenty of runway, and his quiet, low-key public presence makes me trust the work over the noise.
