My Take
I have real respect for Tom McGrath as a genuine double threat. He co-wrote and directed Madagascar while also voicing Skipper the penguin, so he shapes a film from both the drawing board and the booth. From Lynnwood, Washington, and trained as an animator, he went on to deliver Megamind and The Boss Baby, films with comic timing that lands for kids and adults alike. I think that rhythm comes precisely from someone who understands both performance and animation from the inside. Creators who move fluidly between the unseen craft and the on-mic spotlight are exactly the kind I gravitate toward.
