Tomori Kusunoki

I'll be honest, when I find out someone can both voice an anime character with real emotional range AND sit down to write their own lyrics and melodies, my first reaction is a little jealous eye-roll, like, save some talent for the rest of us. But Tomori Kusunoki wins me over fast. There's this delicate, almost fragile quality to her image that totally undersells how much steel is underneath, and the fact that she snagged a Best New Actress nod so early tells me the industry clocked it before I did. I love performers who refuse to pick a lane, and she's clearly one of them, acting and music feeding each other instead of competing. She makes you cry with a line read, then makes you ache with a song. Born in 1999, she's still got so much runway, and I'm quietly excited to see how weird and good she gets.
