Tony Dorsett

Dorsett is one of those running backs whose legacy outlived his stat line. The Heisman, the national title at Pitt, the Cowboys' glory years, the Hall of Fame bust, all of it earned through the most punishing position in football. What stays with me, though, is his later candor about the toll the game took on his brain. He turned his own suffering into advocacy, which reframes how I read his career. I admire the durability, but I respect even more the willingness to talk about its hidden cost. He carried both the spotlight and its shadow.
