My Take
Travis Tritt represents a strain of country music I genuinely love: the rebellious, Southern-rock-tinged side that refused to be polished into Nashville politeness. A Marietta, Georgia native, he fuses blues and rock grit into the genre, and the numbers back it up, with seven platinum-or-higher records and the triple-platinum It's All About to Change. I respect that he stayed true to a rougher, more soulful sound rather than chasing trends, and that gravelly voice sells the hard-luck stories convincingly. The fact that he also acts speaks to a restless versatility. Stubborn artists who guard their own identity tend to win me over, and he does.
