My Take

Tristan Thompson is one of those guys where you genuinely have to separate the player from the headline machine, because on the court he was actually pretty good. A fourth overall pick out of Texas in 2011, he became one of the best offensive rebounders in the league during his Cleveland years — grinding, physical, doing all the dirty work that championship teams need. That 2016 title run with LeBron was real, and Thompson was a big reason Cleveland could hang with Golden State down low. Then his personal life became a recurring tabloid event, the Khloé Kardashian saga playing out on reality TV for years, and it got hard to talk about him without the drama bleeding in. Still, the basketball résumé stands on its own.
