My Take

I'll be honest, this guy is pure old-school Hiroshima Carp magic to me, the lightning-fast shortstop in the red helmet who'd reach base and then just vanish into a cloud of stolen bags. Number 2, born up in Ashibetsu in snowy Hokkaido, and somehow built like a leadoff hitter sent from the baseball gods, all wheels and instinct. What I love is that he didn't fade after hanging up the cleats; he just slid right into the booth as a commentator and popped up on TV as an actor and personality, talking as quick as he used to run. So many athletes shrink once the spotlight moves on, but he kept that easy, grinning energy. To me he's proof that some heroes never really stop running.
