Troy Nehls

Troy Nehls is a study in the very American journey from the street to the statehouse. A former law-enforcement officer who served as sheriff of Fort Bend County before winning Texas's 22nd district seat in 2021, he brings hands-on experience with crime and public safety into the legislative arena. Whatever one makes of his Republican politics, I find the trajectory itself telling: a man shaped by frontline policing now helping write the laws he once enforced. That blend of practical, lived authority and political ambition captures a distinctly grassroots path to Congress that pure career politicians simply cannot claim.
