Tulisa

Tulisa interests me as a survivor more than a star. With N-Dubz, alongside her cousin Dappy and friend Fazer, she helped translate North London street sensibility into four platinum albums and five MOBO Awards, which is no small alchemy. Then came the solo years, the television exposure, and the tabloid storms that would have ended most careers. What I respect is that she keeps showing up: singing, writing, rapping, owning her own narrative. There is a toughness underneath the glamour that feels earned rather than performed. Born in 1988, she has already lived several pop lifetimes, and I suspect the most honest chapter of her music is still ahead.
