My Take
Wendy is honestly one of those rare K-pop vocalists who makes you stop scrolling and just listen. Born in Seoul but raised in Canada, she brings this interesting blend of Western pop sensibility and K-pop precision that sets her apart from the pack — and her time at Richmond Hill High School probably had more to do with that rich, emotionally grounded tone than any training room ever could. Her work in Red Velvet has always been a highlight, but her 2021 solo debut EP Like Water felt like a genuine exhale — softer, more personal, like she finally had the space to just be Wendy. Throw in Got the Beat and she keeps proving she can thrive in any lineup you put her in. Criminally underrated on the global stage, but the fans who know, know.
