YK Osiris

YK Osiris earns my attention because his breakthrough was no fluke: 2019's "Worth It" cracked the Billboard Hot 100's upper reaches and went triple platinum, which is hard-won validation for a kid out of Jacksonville. What I hear in his music is an emotional rawness, melody and ache wrapped together, that hints at real feeling beneath the polish. He moves comfortably between singing and rapping, but the throughline is sincerity rather than technical flash. He was also arrested in 2019 on an aggravated assault charge involving his girlfriend. I'm rooting for him to shake off any one-hit framing, because the talent on display suggests there's a longer, more interesting career still waiting to unfold.
