My Take
Yohio fascinates me as a cross-cultural anomaly. A Swede from Stockholm County, born in 1995, who built a career steeped in Japanese visual kei aesthetics, complete with the androgynous, lolita-inflected stage presence. As a singer, songwriter, and guitarist, and a former member of the rock band Seremedy before it disbanded in 2013, he clearly takes the craft seriously beyond the costuming. What I admire is the conviction. It would be easy to dismiss the look as a gimmick, but committing to a whole aesthetic identity across borders takes real nerve. He carved out a niche that almost nobody else occupies, and that originality earns my attention.
