Yoko Asagami

Okay, this one quietly floored me. I knew Yoko Asagami as a voice from the golden age of anime, and then I find out she didn't just retire into the sunset, she reinvented herself as a kodan storyteller, sitting with a folding fan and narrating whole tales to a live room. That's a wild kind of devotion to the spoken word, going from acting with your voice to commanding a stage with it. A Hokkaido kid out of Otaru, and you can almost hear that steady, weathered patience in how long she's stuck with this craft. When she picked up the Seiyu Award merit honor in 2022, it felt less like a surprise and more like the industry finally saying out loud what fans already knew. No flash, just decades of earned authority in the throat. I really respect that.
