My Take

I've got a soft spot for kids who skip college and dive straight into pro ball, and Keito Mombetsu is exactly that — a young lefty out of Tokai University Sapporo High up in Hokkaido who jumped to the Hanshin Tigers right out of school. Born in 2004, he's barely in his twenties, and at that age I was mostly just coasting through life, so the fact that he's already winding up against pro hitters earns my respect on its own. He's basically all upside right now, raw potential still waiting to be filled in. I don't really care about flashy stats with a guy like this — what gets me is watching someone climb the ladder one rung at a time.
