My Take
Yorgos Lanthimos is, for my money, one of the most exciting filmmakers working today. From Dogtooth through The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Favourite and Poor Things, this Athens-born director keeps building worlds that are tender, cruel and absurd all at once, and I can never look away. That deliberate discomfort, where beauty and menace share the same frame, is what makes his cinema unforgettable. His 2023 Golden Lion and sweep of European Film Awards confirm what cinephiles already knew. He isn't for everyone, and that's precisely the point. Count me firmly among the converted.
