Yoshihisa Kobayashi

Yoshihisa Kobayashi, born in 1981 in Asaka, Saitama, and a graduate of Nippon Sport Science University, is best known in Japan as the taiso no oniisan — the exercise presenter on NHK's long-running children's programme Okaasan to Issho. For readers outside Japan, that job is easy to underrate. It looks like a man in bright clothes doing simple movements, but it demands real athletic ability performed at full smile, on camera, in front of an audience of toddlers who will not forgive a flat day. The sports-university background is not decoration; it is the job description. What strikes me most is the consistency it requires: the same energy every single morning, for years, aimed at children who have no idea they are watching a professional. That kind of work rarely wins awards. It does something better — it lodges itself in the memory of an entire generation, and their parents remember it too.
